I was approached by Bettina Moss, a Strategic Brand Consultant, to develop a visual identity for her new brand consultancy, "BettinaBranding" and to assist with creating a simple yet interactive online presence. Bettina had a few ideas for starters which helped get the process going, but once ideas were put through their paces a few new directions developed. One of the initial conceptual ideas was to create a spiral element which conveyed the message of Branding being an inward and outward looking process. As is the case many times what is seen in the mind comes out very differently in reality and we progressed to develop a simpler yet bolder identity.

Draft Logo & Branding Ideas

Because of the name BettinaBranding and the emphasis on the B it Bcame clear very early on that the letter B was our friend though at times it wasn’t Bhaving the way we would have liked it to. Oh I’ll stop B’ting around the Bush, oops, couldn’t help that last one.

Working Through the Choices

After playing around with different ways of using the letter B constructed from arrows, pointers, half circles and the like we finally came up with something we both liked and which can be extended in many different ways. The BettinaBranding B has been growing on us and those who have been exposed to it over the past few weeks and I have no doubt that with Bettina’s excellent understanding of strategic brand development it’s going to grow into a recognizable name and identity.

The final result of logo & business card designs were very well received but that’s not all. Being the brand champion that she is Bettina recognises the need to extend her brands image in as many of her communication channel as possible and get a consistent feel running through everything. One of the things I liked about the brand development process was that Bettina’s personality comes through in the final visual material which has allowed her to make an immediate personalized impression on those she communicates with.

Next comes the Website, a cost effective and easy to access connection with the business world. Depending on who you’re speaking to a Website can be indispensable in the role it playing communicating with your target group. When it comes to business to business type of communications there’s generally little reason to justify not making some kind of investment in online communications, starting with a Website as a foundation. With the proliferation of easy to use tools available at little or no cost there’s even less reason to not have some kind of presence online. It can be as simple as having your Website’s address on your business card allowing your potential customers or business interests to access your information at their leisure. With the BettinaBranding project it didn’t take long using WordPress and some tailored customisation to extend what we had created in the logo and business cards online.

The feedback from those who have been exposed to the birth of this newly branded consultancy has been overwhelming. Though the process was rapid one and certain aspects of the brand will be refined Bettina now has the tools to take her offering to market in record time and with very little cost associated.

Logo Controversies Continued

I’ve been monitoring a few high profile logo re-design projects lately, and the controversies which have popped up surrounding them. I find the whole thing rather intriguing.
