If you’ve heard about *Camp Cape Town (pronounced Star Camp), which will be happening in a few weeks time (on December 8th and 9th), have a quick squizz at these logo ideas I designed for the event. I quickly put a few designs together as a way to contribute my little piece to this very interesting pie and would love your feedback.

Some Logo Ideas for Star *Camp Cape Town unconference event

The *Camp builds on the 2006 BarCamp Cape Town, the GeekDinner movement started post-BarCamp Cape Town, and the 27dinner phenomenon of finding new ways to get people together to learn from each other and to learn _of_ each other, to help build the Cape as a leader in business and technology.

For those of you not familiar with these events, they are a new (well new to many) style, think tank/collaborative events or (un)conferences. The participants organize the event and set the agenda. It’s a great way to learn from others, share ideas and get involved with people you may never otherwise interact with.

Visit http://wiki.geekdinner.org.za/wiki/Star_Camp/Cape_Town_2007 to see all the details and sign up to attend. If you have any comments or ideas for the logos, let me know by submitting a comment on this post. Below is one of the recommended modified Logo Designs requested by benevolent dictator Neil. What do you guys think of this one?

A few Logo Designs for fun - sitepoint design contests

There’s been an awful lot of debate going around in design circles about non-paying pitch work (spec work) and it seems the vast majority of designers are against it. On the other hand most client’s would prefer it for obvious reasons. One place online which I’ve recently been testing out for fun is the Sitepoint Design

What do you think a Logo design should cost?

I Found the following article very apt with regard to the current perceptions by many business people regarding the benefits of a good logo and what they are prepared to “invest” in it. Jacob of Just Creative Design wrote Why logo design does not cost $5.00 in which he mentions: A logo is the very first impression

Logo Design Competition entries are now closed

All good things must come to an end as they say. The Logo Design Questions & Answers competition, which has been running here at nomad-one.com has come to an end for now and the winner will be announces very soon. So far, setting up this little competition has allowed me to focus on the theoretical or

The Official Wordpress Meetup Cape Town Logo

That is of course if anyone disagrees in and provides something better. I did a few roughs and seems this one was the favourite, so in the spirit of moving forward, I’m planning on whipping up an I’m attending button for you to put onto your blogs. Lets hope this will stimulate a little more

Wordpress Meetup Cape Town - Monday 18 Feb

Finally it’s here, something I’ve been wanting to organise myself but haven’t managed to get around to doing, an (un)conference style wordpress meetup, and hopefully only the first of many to happen in Cape Town. Callum Macdonald, nomadic web worker and travelling entrepreneur hailing from Scotland was responsible for setting the ball in motion after the

Some nice work here. My favourite is the fifth one (going from the top, left to right). Why not add it to the *Camp wiki for voting and comments? See you there!

Hi Jason, thanks for the thoughts and looking forward to meeting you too. I added the logos to the planning page on the wiki and numbered them so we know which ones were talking about. Found the wiki a little clunky to format

    Hey Nur,
Awesome work man. I like the icon you used in number 3 as the logo for the event (i.e. without the word).

Rock on! Look forward to hooking up for that coffee soon!

Hi Dave, thanks for the comment. I’m just wondering if design by commitee will actually work for a conference of this nature. At what point do we make a decision about the logo and who gets to make that decision?

I’m quite a fan of 5 and 6. Any chance of doing 6 again with the blue colour from #5, and with a slightly darker lettering? Maybe some alternate fonts?

I guess I’m “benevolent dictator” for *Camp if there’s no rough concensus coming from the rest. But let’s see if that happens, before we get too excited about executive power. ;)

    More options please Nur,
concepts are cool, but nothing yet that is “wow”,
Please don’t crusify me, it’s jst my opinion,

Hi Neil, thanks for the comments, doing 6 with 5′ colouring will take a few seconds. I’ll whip it up in the morning when I get a chance though as you say will also wait for some more feedback.

Yasser, I don’t take design criticism personally. I wasn’t really going for anything wow, just spent a few minutes and slapped these together. Any ideas from your side?

Neil, what do we do if we reach a point where there’s a million and one opinions? ie. tomorrow morning :) Let me know which way to go.

I also like the way the star is combined with the word “camp” in number 6, although I’d like more of an asterisk-ish eight-pointed straight-spoked star (like in 1, 3 and 7, but with eight points). But they’re looking good so far, thanks!

Jonathan and I have reached a compromise (I think), and like the position, shape, and colour of the star overlapping with the “c” in the bottom-left item on the third set, with the original font in the second set.

If you’re bored, then give some more font options.

Otherwise, I think we can run this past the planning mailing list (sign up if you haven’t already to get a vote) and see if we can start using it soon!

Thanks so much for your efforts!

Cool stuff Neil, I’m by no means bored at the moment, a little snowed under actually. I’ll do the final combination and send it through to you guys asap. Glad to be of service.
